Youth Basketball
This
video shows you how the 15 most
important basketball techniques and
tactics are performed. Step-by-step
instructions and clear demonstrations
help you transfer what you learn to
the practice court. Produced by the
American Sport Education Program (ASEP),
the Coaching Youth Basketball video
provides excellent instruction for the
beginning coach. It's designed for
volunteer, novice coaches and parents
of players ages 8 to 14. VHS. 25
minutes. 2002. BV-12026 $24.95
Coach Bill Green developed the true
match-up zone in the 1970's and it can
be just as effective today. The
defense forces the offense to react
instead of dictate the action. Coach
Green explains the rules of the
match-up zone, selecting and
positioning your players and how the
defense works versus odd and even
front offenses. The video includes
game footage to reinforce the teaching
points. Running Time: 42 Minutes.
2005. DVD.
This DVD includes both the Basics
and Traps & Adjustments videos and
makes it easy to implement the 1-3-1.
A great asset for any coaches library.
1-3-1 Zone Defense: The Basics -
Wisconsin high school coach Steve
Klaas teaches the basic slides of the
1-3-1 defense that has made his school
the winningest mid-size school in the
state during his tenure. The basics
shows each player's slides and
coverages for any offensive movement.
It also discusses the five rules that
make Coach Klaas' defense effective.
The video teaches the defense with two
simple breakdown drills and then
implements it in the whole while
discussing how to cover penetration,
screens, and much more. Running Time:
Approximately 45 minutes. 2003. DVD.
1-3-1 Zone Defense: Traps &
Adjustments - Coach Klaas continues
the development of the 1-3-1 with the
traps and adjustments he uses to
confound opponents. Once you have the
basics down, this video will be an
excellent complement. Coach Klaas
shows how the defense can be used from
at any level on the floor and how they
trap tops and corners. He also teaches
three other adjustments used versus a
strong high post player, a strong low
post player, or a great perimeter
shooter. Coach Klaas then demonstrates
how any of the adjustments can be
combined to make the 1-3-1 a very
tough defense to attack. Running Time:
Approximately 40 Minutes. 2003. DVD.
